Wine Tasting

Day 1: THURSDAY

So it Begins

Welcome to Croatia. We look forward to greeting you at the Hotel Plaza Duce. Your 4-star superior accommodation is only a short drive from Split. Nestled along the coast near to the town of Omiš. The hotel has the most beautiful views of the Adriatic Sea and the island of Brač. There are both indoor and outdoor pools to enjoy, with the wellness centre open daily.

This evening, you will be served a three-course dinner. These will be exclusively local Dalmatian dishes paired with wines. We will also be accompanied by a special guest. A winery owner who will share his passion of vinification and his personal approach to making wine.

Split in Croatia

Day 2: FRIDAY | Walk: 5 miles (9km)

Secret Ways of Split

Our story starts in the UNESCO Old Town of Split, amongst the red rooftops and ancient Roman architecture. Discover the cities most charming narrow streets and the vibrant café culture. There will be free time to enjoy the abundance of sea front restaurants and shops.

After lunch, a green oasis awaits, which hides a 15th-century church and hermitage cave. The view of the Adriatic Sea from the peak rewards every step.

We depart Split, tracing the coastline to a delightful family-owned vineyard. Recently ranked as the 7th most beautiful in Europe. Our hosts have prepared an exquisite 4-course menu, paired with their exceptional wines.

Day 3: SATURDAY | Walk: 5 miles (9km)

Coastal Bliss & Šibenik

The Adriatic Riviera is perfect for coastal walking, with many natural treasures. Our favourite being the Šibenik archipelago, only a short distance north of Split. Expect wonderful seascapes, paths lined with fragrant wild herbs and towering pine trees.

At the halfway point, we pass through “Hitler’s Eye,” an undersea tunnel dug into the cliffside for German torpedo boats during WWII. The walk concludes at St. Nicholas’ Fortress, the most significant Venetian fortification outside of Venice and UNESCO landmark.

From the islet of Školjić, we transfer into the enchanting old town of Šibenik. Enjoy free time exploring its medieval charm and labyrinthine streets. There are many wonderful restaurants to enjoy.

Refreshed, we continue into the hills above Šibenik. The Peninsula is surrounded by century-old dry-stone walls and olive trees. All leading the trail to our next stop. A unique winery producing superb blends of wine.  You’ll be sampling various vintages and guided through the family’s rich journey of creations.

Day 4: SUNDAY | Walk: 3 miles (5km)

Waterfalls & Culinary Magic

Nestled in central Dalmatia, lies the famous Krka National Park. Renowned for its collection of 17 waterfalls.  A scenic trail connects the park with the idyllic town of Skradin, where our walk begins.

Skradin is one of the country’s oldest settlements. There’s time to explore the promenade, to take photos from the Fortress viewpoint and  to relax by the harbour with a coffee.

Stone mountains give way to lush green forests as we enter the National Park. The roar of cascading waterfalls fills the air, with natural pools sparkling under the sun. The scenery that unfolds is breathtaking.

After the walking comes the wine. Time to discover the essence of Croatian winemaking, paired with fine dining style dishes. We’ll be exploring an award-winning selection of handcrafted wines from indigenous grapes.  You will hear and taste the family story through the art of both fine wine and food.

Walking Croatia and visit the best vineyards of Dalmatia

Day 5: MONDAY | Walk: 4 miles (6km)

The Red and Blue Lakes

Our first stop is one of Croatia’s most beautiful coastal towns, Omiš. Its historical centre features narrow streets lined with shops and traditional konobas. You’ll have free time to explore Omiš, before we walk to the top of Mirabella Fortress.

Just a short distance from Omiš is Poljica, a historic region of twelve villages known as the birthplace of soparnik, a UNESCO-listed dish. We’ve arranged for a special soparnik chef to meet us at a stunning viewpoint. A feast for the eyes and stomach awaits.

Time to discover two of the country’s greatest natural phenomena’s, the mystical Red & Blue Lakes of Imotski. The Red Lake being the third deepest sinkhole in the world.

Time for fine dining. Our destination restaurant harmonises authentic cultural heritage with modern flare. Each course will be paired with native grape varietals. Unforgettable flavors with exquisite service.

Day 6 – TUESDAY | Walk: 2 miles (4 km)

Empire Of Wine

The Pelješac Region is today’s focus. Hailed as the ‘Empire of Wine,’ the province is a treasure trove of vineyards and sun-kissed hills.  We’ll start in the historic town of Ston, famed for its oysters, ancient saltmarshes and impressive stone wall.  The Ston Wall, the second largest after the Great Wall of China, will serve as the backbone of our walking route.

Leaving Ston, olive groves give way to vine- laden slopes as we head to one of the region’s oldest family-owned wineries. A pre-dinner wine tasting awaits.

The trail continues over the magnificent Pelješac suspension bridge, to a vineyard so picturesque, that it’s been awarded ‘The most beautiful winery in the world’.  Enjoy an incredible view of the valley, as we indulge in a guided wine tasting session and gala dinner.

Day 7 – WEDNESDAY | Walk: 4 miles (6 km)

Into The Hinterlands

Whether we’ve saved the best for last is up to you to decide. The Hinterlands are undoubtedly Croatia’s best-kept secret. We’ll discover the historical town of Sinj, find a forgotten fortress and enjoy many extraordinary views.

With the walking complete, we head to a country estate for an immersive food and wine experience. The rugged roads indicating at the slower pace of life. As we wait for dinner, we’ll head to their barrel cellar for a few glasses of merlot and zinfandel. Hard to imagine, but the food is even better than the wine. Traditional slow cooked homemade pašticada and handmade gnocchi.

Your time here may have offered just a glimpse of rural Croatia, but it will stay with you forever. Maybe we did save the best day till last?!
